Library
If you’re building a custom home, a library is simply a must-have. Okay, I might be a little biased-I love reading. But whether or not that’s the case for you, a library can be used for so much more! If you’re a student, you can use it as a study area. It can’t hurt to have a database of knowledge in the form of books at your fingertips. Throw in a desk and some lounge chairs and suddenly you’ve created the perfect spot to catch up on homework! If you are an avid reader, stock your library with your favorite poetry books, fantasy books, and anything else you can think of! If you have kids, adding a library to your custom home is a great way to get them excited about reading and learning in general. You could even add a built-in sliding ladder like the one in Beauty and the Beast. If you’re feeling extra fancy, add a skylight in your library to create a more whimsical look and add more natural lighting. Be sure to add lots of lamps so that reading, writing, drawing, and studying can be done with ease, even at night.
Spa
No, adding a spa to your custom home does not make you selfish. You deserve it! And you’d be surprised at how often you use it. You’re probably really busy-let’s face it, we all are. But if after a long day instead of begging your husband to give you a massage you had a completely customized room to relax in and unwind, you’d probably find the time for it. Additionally, spas are a great way to rekindle the romance in your relationship when things get tense at home. Add features such as massage chairs, massage tables, speakers for relaxing music, an indoor waterfall or fountain, an indoor hot tub, and more. When you move into your custom home, be sure to stock it with candles, essential oils, and plenty of towels. If you live in a more secluded area, add a large window to create natural lighting, and consider adding a few plants and flowers to make the area more therapeutic.
Guest Room
Be honest-at some point, one of your friends or family members has had to sleep on your couch or on the floor because you didn’t have a guest room. Well, now’s your chance to change that! Guest rooms aren’t just for castles and old Victorian homes-they could be the perfect addition to your custom home. They can be surprisingly handy in the event of a family emergency, a visitor from out of town, or even just for when one of your other rooms is being repainted or remodeled. When it comes to designing guest rooms, keep it simple. Use neutral colors and popular patterns. Be sure to add a connecting bathroom to maintain plenty of privacy for your visitor.
